STREET MARKETS: A REFLECTION OF CULTURE

Markets at home and abroad

A great place to discover the culture of a country, different places and
buy some bargains too is definitely a market. There you can buy from
antiquities and jewelles to exotic foods.  Abroad markets are, for example,
Bangkok’s Chatuchak Market, which is crowded and enormous. Covent Garden in London
is other market where buskers perform. But not all markets are abroad,
in Spain there are different types like craft or hippie ones in Ibiza or Madrid’s rastro.

EVAU WILL TAKE PLACE KEEPING DISTANCES

STUDENTS OF 2ND BTO ARE WORRIED ABOUT EVAU EXAM.

IT WILL BE CARRIED OUT ON THE 7TH, 8TH AND 9TH OF JULY 2020.

THIS IS AN EXAMPLE OF AN ENGLISH TEXT:

Obesity: The killer combination of salt, fat and sugar

Our favourite foods are making us fat, yet we can't resist, because eating them is changing our minds as well as bodies. For thousands of years, human body weight had stayed remarkably stable. With rare exceptions our weight neither rose nor fell. Then, in the 80s, something changed. Three decades ago, fewer than one Briton in 10 was obese. One in four is today. It is projected that by 2050, Britain could be a "mainly obese society". Similar changes were taking place in the US, where researchers found that not only were Americans entering their adult years at a significantly higher weight but, while on average everyone was getting heavier, the heaviest people were gaining disproportionately more weight than others.
Overeating is not the sole province of those who are overweight. Even people who remain slim often feel troubled by their need for food. Yet many, including doctors and healthcare professionals, still think that weight gainers merely lack willpower, or perhaps self-esteem. The fact that sugar, fat and salt make food compelling cannot, however, be ignored. They stimulate neurons, cells that release dopamine, a chemical that motivates our behaviour and makes us want to eat more. It is not just that fast food chains serve food with more fat, sugar and salt, or that intensive processing virtually eliminates our need to chew before swallowing, or that snacks are now available at any time. It is the combination of all that, and more.

PERSUASION OR MANIPULATION BY Daniel Rodtiguez

RULES OF PERSUASION

To start talking about this topic, I would like to say first what the rules of persuasion are,
roughly speaking, and then I will tell you what I have chosen and why.  Persuasion is
the ability that we humans have to convince other people to do something
they were not planning to do.

I have chosen the principle or rule of authority because
it seems to me that it is the one that is most frequently observed.
This is based on giving credibility to those we consider experts.
But it is important to point out that these experts do not have to be,
they just have to look like them in the eyes of the observer,
either because of their qualifications, or because of their clothes,
or because of accessories that give them authority,
or because of the social fame that precedes them.
In this way we have created a society, unintentionally,
in which we devalue the opinions of most people simply
because another person speaks more convincingly than the previous one.
We have thus plunged into an era in which there are thousands of disparate
opinions but none is respected if it does not confer or appear to confer the
necessary authority. A prime example is age, teens often make judgments
bordering on stupidity, if not most, but sometimes their words are more
accurate than many adults'. Still, the latter are taken as more valuable
because of their age, and this is something that even teenagers themselves
have unconsciously "accepted".

In conclusion, I will give another clear example. The Camel cigarette ad
(here is the link) claiming that the doctors smoked Camels made viewers
think that if the doctors did it, it would be bad.
