Next September 9th, at 8:03 AM GMT there is a small
chance of a meteorite colliding with Earth.
Even though the idea might seem frightening at first
glance, experts believe it is not a serious concern, due to the low possibility
of such a thing happening; it is stimated there is a 1 in 11,428 chance of
impact.
The celestial body in question is called 2006 QV89, it travels at 44,000 kilometers
per hour, and on the off chance it ends up hitting Earth, it would destroy
around 2,000 square kilometers.
2006 QV89 places
seventh on the list of the most potentially dangerous asteroids for Earth in
the next hundred years, a catalog listing another eight hundred and fifteen celestial
bodies with a chance to hit Earth at some point in the future.
